Greetings all,
Well as many of you know, the El Paso County Elections Department certified that there were enough valid signatures to require a recall election targeted at myself and Dave Martin. While this is somewhat disheartening, it is also the way the system is designed. I must admit that the only thing that keeps me from hanging it up right now are the misrepresented facts and outright lies that were used to get to this point. In an earlier blog post I identified a single individual with the recall committee for allowing misinformation to fuel their campaign and that was not fair. I believe that there were a number of individuals who knowingly spread lies and twisted information for their own political gain. http://kentclawson.com/RecallRebutals
I understand that many people are frustrated and for some there can never be enough information, but I also believe that one of my greatest shortcomings is not more aggressively calling the distortions and untruths as they are discovered. That said I plan to use this 15 day period to convey my perspective. In the event that people find they signed a petition under false assumptions then I encourage them to contact the County Elections office and have their name removed from the petition. If you wish to take advantage of this option I encourage you to fill out the letter at http://www.kentclawson.com/sites/default/files/WithdrawalRequest.doc Contact Liz Olsen at (719) 520-6222 lizolson@elpasoco.com If you don't want to pay for the stamp contact me and we will deliver them for you.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Best wishes,
Kent
